Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the impact of staff qualification and training on the performance of core function activities(CFA) of Communicable Disease Surveillance and response(CDSs) in Gazera state, Sudan during 2009. A descriptive cross sectional facility based study design used. The assessment covered: sentinel sites(51), locality offices (seven) and the staff of state epidemiology directorate. Questionnaires, checklists and record review were used. Data collected and analyzed using SPSS V.1 There were a deficiency in CDSs CFA specially at locality levels with strong positive association between staff qualification and training with CFA; knowledge (X2=23.05-p=0.01),awareness (X2=21.17,p=0.002),timelines (X2=10.2-p=0.03) There were significant relations highlighting area for strengthening,

Dr. Magda Nogudalla, a community physician from Sudan, working in Epidemiology Department, as one of professional staff in disease surveillance, has developed her interest and professional career in epidemiology and biostatics, has accomplished research on disease surveillance assessment which published on the international journal of infectious diseases, poster presentation and participation at the 15Th ICIDs Thailand,2012. Has attended international meetings /workshops on disease surveillance, subsequently, she attempt to apply her knowledge in infectious disease surveillance for system improvement.

Epidemiologist, Public Health Specialist  Dr. Ahmed I. Abdelghani is a one of public health professional from Sudan. Throughout his work experience-as a head of communicable diseases surveillance section in federal ministry of health, Sudan, he developed his interest and professional career in epidemiology and biostatistics. Subsequently, he attempt to apply his knowledge in infectious disease modeling to improve the usage of routine surveillance data to improve the evidence base decision making especially that related to early preparedness and epidemic control.
