Abstract

This demonstration describes the cross-border collaborative process used by the One Border One Health (OBOH) Surveillance Committee for the development of a transparent methodology to identify and prioritize high-risk zoonotic infectious disease agents along the California-Baja California border.

Author Biography

Kristine Ortwine, Early Warning Infectious Disease Surveillance, California Department of Public Health; San Diego State Graduate School of Public Health

Kristine Ortwine received her BS in Chemistry, focusing in Computational Chemistry, from Old Dominion University. She is currently an Epidemiology/MPH candidate in the Graduate School of Public Health, San Diego State University. Her research interests include health disparities, infectious disease surveillance in border communities, One Health, and GIS mapping of infectious diseases. She is a member of the One Border One Health Informatics and Surveillance committees. Dr. Karen Ferran is the Chief Epidemiologist/Program Manager of the Early Warning Infectious Disease Surveillance Program. Her work focuses on pandemic influenza, emerging and re-emerging pathogens and agents of bioterrorism. Working in collaboration with public and private sector partners from the US and Mexico, she has facilitated the development of early warning surveillance systems designed to protect border communities. Dr. Ferran co-founded One Border One Health and is co-chair of the Surveillance Committee.
